Background to this rarity……

 

This is the earliest and rarest 1st MONO pressing with the 'uncorrected' 1st pressing matrix endings i.e. when this LP was initially pressed, the matrix endings mistakenly ended in 1P/P1 - they should, of course, have been P1/P1 - short for Pressing 1.  

 

Almost immediately after pressing began, an additional '1' was added after the '1P' matrix on Side 1. Most 1P/P1 1st pressings therefore have this '1' 'correction' to the Side 1 matrix and it is now ultra rare to find this uncorrected 1st pressing, as only a very few were made.

 

It is hard enough to find a genuine 1st pressing - even with the corrected P1/P1 matrices - most 1st pressings being sold on ebay and elsewhere are (later) 1st pressings with T2-1K, T2-2K, T2-3K or even T2-4K matrix numbers. 

 

The cover is also the 'earliest possible' 1st press cover - with the deeper blue colour and thicker lamination than later pressings; comes with the original 1st press red 'smoke' inner sleeve.

 

 

Cover: Original Robert Stace 1st pressing 3D (hologram) Mono TXL 103 cover with the laminated outer gatefold and  unlaminated inside. No writings/doodles or seam splits. Nice clear perfect spine. Rates as Near Mint - the best I have seen many many years. 

 

Inner sleeve: Original red 'smoke' inner sleeve is Excellent. One very small repairable seam split at the base.

 

Vinyl: Not play tested but but looks to be Excellent+. Lovely sheen and only a couple of very faint marks to be seen under a strong light.

 

Labels: Unboxed Decca grooved labels. Near Excellent. Both sides have the previous owner's initials. Inverted catalogue numbers.

Gradings.......

Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.

Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.

Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.

Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.

Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.

Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc

Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
