Description: Up for your consideration is the next in a series of unique LPs, this one by Roman Totenberg, violinist.

Several unique things about this item:
Firstly, the records retain the original shine, with one light mark on side 1, grading by sight in normal room light. I'm sure if you took this and put it under a 1000 watt bulb, you'd probably find something that makes it less than mint. If you're that kind of collector, and after a recent unpleasant experience with a buyer from Malaysia, let me suggest this auction is not for you. I don't claim these records are mint.
I did take the time to play through six portions of this light mark on side 1 as it extends about half way across the disc. This mark did not sound and I noted in these tests that the sound of the LP is excellent with no surface noise. Based on short tests, visual observation and past experience, one should expect the tracks on these discs to audibly average at least 1/2 of the way between VG+(excellent) and Near Mint.

Secondly, at the time of this listing, no present sales on e-bay and one past sale for $85.

So this is your chance to own a unique item at a reasonable price. Bid early and often so you don't miss out on this item!

It is further described below, please take the time to read before bidding.

Please e-mail if questions.

Be sure to check my other listings to save postage on multiple winning bids. Please explore the "Me" link above(next to feedback rating) to check out my store and some of the 15,000+ records / books / CD's / cassettes I have for sale as well as the LP to CD transfer service I offer.

I am using the Goldmine scale of G=Good(1), VG = Very Good(2), VG+ = Very Good Plus(excellent)(3), NM = Near Mint(4) when grading the disc(s).

Here is a summary of the record(s):

Artist: Roman Totenberg, violin Title: Johann Sebastian Bach -- The six sonatas and partitas for solo violin Record: Black vinyl with the original shine and one longer, light mark on side one, grading by sight in normal room light. Labels: Gray with dark print and a pinkish outer ring. There is one letter on each label (A, B, C, D, E, G) to the left of the center hole. Each letter is about the size of the center hole and appears to be in pencil. There are no stickers and a few spindle marks. Trailing wax: Side 1: "MHS 1460 A STERLING 2T LH PR". Side 2: ""MHS 1460 B 2T PR" Inner sleeve: Three generic MHS sleeves with protective plastic inner linings. Cover: Box corners are slightly to moderately worn. The back left edge has a 2" split, but it does not show through to the inside. Slight general wear front/back, some small spotting on the front. Lower spine with some spotting around the MHS 1460/1/2 notation. No stickers, no pen/pencil marks. Rate the cover VG to VG+(excellent). Comments: . Based on short tests, past experience and visual observation, one should expect the tracks to audibly average at least 1/2 of the way between VG+ (excellent) and Near Mint. This item comes with an insert, it is taped to the inside front cover and there are three pencil check marks on it. An excellent addition to your Roman Totenberg, violin. Side 1: Side 2: Sonata in G Minor, BWV 1001 -- Adagio - Fuga: Allegro, Siciliano, Presto Partita in B Minor, BWV 002 -- Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Tempo di Bournee Side 3: Side 4: Sonata in A Minor, BWV 1003 -- Grave - Fuga, Andante, Allegro Partita in D Minor, BWV 1004 -- Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gigue, Chaconne Side 5: Side 6: Sonata in C Major, BWV 1005 -- Adagio - Fuga: Alla Breve, Largo, Allegro assai Partita in E Major, BWV 1006 -- Preludio, Loure, Gavotte en Rondeau, Menuet I, Menuet II, Bourree, Gigue

Additional criteria I use when audibly grading records for people:

  • NM(4) = absolutely nothing wrong at all (very rarely happens--I've even opened sealed records and they don't play Near Mint)
  • 3.5-3.9 = very, very light surface noise
  • 3.1-3.4 = very light surface noise, very light pops
  • VG+(3) = up to light pops and light surface noise (below this, one's enjoyment is affected, very subjective)
  • VG(2) = up to medium pops and moderate surface noise
  • G(1) = up to heavy pops and heavy surface noise
