Description

ABOUT MY LISTINGS (PLEASE READ)

Naturally we would all like to be able to buy a 1st pressing Beatles album in mint condition for a tenner; however, returning to the real world, this is obviously not possible (or at least, very unlikely!) The music I will be offering for sale will be from my own vast collection; it will therefore be used but will be affordable and will be ideal for buyers who want a solid, playable copy (and who don't mind if the item isn't in pristine condition) without paying a fortune. If you want stone-cold mint first pressings (or are an audiophile, or indeed just a fussy sod) then you are in the wrong place! Most of what I sell will be in the VG-EX range and will often be at a set Buy It Now price (no waiting 7 days only to be outbid at the last minute - if you want it, get it right away!).

Condition-wise, if any surface marks are mentioned in the description, these will be precisely that - NON-FEELABLE and on the top surface of the record or CD only. Any deeper or feelable marks will be noted and if it affects play, again it will be mentioned in the description. Basically, I will only list anything I would happily buy myself. I have a mountain of stuff to get through so may not always have time to give a full track-listing; if you want more info., feel free to ask but please try Discogs or the All Music Guide first as you will almost certainly be able to find out what you need on one of those two sites. If not, then drop me a line. Finally, all grades used (see below) are those used by "Record Collector" magazine (please take note of this if you are a US bidder as Goldmine's grades are very different to those used in RC). Thanks for reading all this, and please save me on your favourite sellers list as there will be thousands of items in the £1-£5 range listed in the coming months.

ITEM DETAILS

RON RUDE (& THE UNFOREGETTABLES) - "THE BORDERS OF DISGRACE"

On offer is a very scarce 1979 Australian stereo VINYL LP on the Rudesound label (RUD-001), complete with lyric insert.

From what I can gather, this album was pressed in VERY small quantities (maybe only 1000 ?) and is obviously now a really hard-to-find artefact of the late 70s Australian lo-fi, post punk/garage scene.

Ron Rude was one of the first Australian indie musicians to self record and release their own material, which he did with the release of his first album 'The Borders of Disgrace' in 1979 and is considered to be a pioneer of DIY recording. Rude was also part of the post punk "little band scene" that flourished in Melbourne in the late 1970s - 1980s, and is probably best known (to the general public) for staging a hunger strike in the window of local record shop Missing Link and the demand that local radio station 3XY play his records, threatening to drown himself in a bucket of water if they did not. CONDITION & TERMS

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THE DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS GIVEN BELOW - although the stuff I offer is cheap, I still make a big effort to give a very detailed description, rather than just putting a simple 'G','VG' or 'EX'. Similarly, the photos provided may not always show every detail in the description (especially on the covers), so please ensure you have read and understood the whole description before placing a bid or using 'Buy It Now' ... thanks!

POSTING OVERSEAS - I must also add that recently I have had quite a lot of bids from people in countries where insurance is compulsory and the winners have then either argued about the CLEARLY stated terms or refused to pay for insurance. I don't see how I can make things any plainer, but just to reiterate, if you live anywhere EXCEPT the UK, Europe (NOT Italy or Russia), USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand your parcel MUST be insured and sent via International Signed For - this is at EXTRA cost to the buyer and will be clearly detailed in the POSTAGE & PACKING section (please scroll down to below 'Grading' section).

CONDITION

COVER - shows some signs of use and age, as follows; there is some wear in each corner and some fairly significant shelfwear/rubbing to the grey colour of the bottom seam. The cover also shows a little outer rim wear, half a dozen or so small lines/'crinkles' by the spine a has a long but reasonably gentle horizontal bend/ripple in both the bottom left and bottom right areas. To the rear, there is a slightly deeper, more obvious bend in the bottom right area. Having said that, there are NO major problems, with NO seam splits, rips or tears, NO writing etc. so will settle for G+/VG- There is a copy on an auction price comparison website in very smiliar condition as this one and it was described as being 'in'great shape', so it's all a matter of opinion I suppose! This one shows plenty of signs of its age, but is still perfectly serviceable. And more to the point, is very, very rare!
INSERT - has a very small 'nick' to one edge, a bend in one corner and looks like it was probably folded at one time as there is a gentle horizontal line down the centre. Nothing major though and otherwise fine.
VINYL - viewed under a bright halogen bulb, there are several marks to report; firstly, there is a light (non-feelable) surface scratch on tracks 1 and 2 of Side 1 and on tracks 2 and 3 of Side 1; there is also a light (non-feelable) scuff on the first track and a half of Side 2. Both sides also have quite a few light (again, non-feelable) surface marks and light 'hairlines' BUT I could not find any deep or feelable scratches on either side. The record plays through fine with no jumps or sticking, but with the expected bit of surface noise here and there (also on the run-in and run-offs and in the dead wax between tracks now and then), also the odd 'pop' or gentle click in evidence, but nothing major at all and nothing too intrusive. I would say visually around the G+/VG- area, but plays more like VG. Not a perfect copy then, but perfectly acceptable and a rare item!

Overseas buyers (non-English speakers) - you are welcome to bid but remember that the items I am selling are USED and will mostly NOT be mint. There is a detailed description above so please make sure you have READ AND UNDERSTOOD this before bidding. If in any doubt or if there is something you do not understand, please ask. I will be VERY unhappy if anyone bids and then says afterwards that the "vinyl is only in VG condition" or similar if it's clearly stated! So PLEASE make sure you are clear on what you are bidding on before hitting the button ... thanks!

GRADING

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. (please note that I will NEVER use this grade, as I think you are asking for trouble! The highest grade I will use will be NM (Near Mint) as even a new record/CD can have a tiny fault if you look hard enough!)

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played a number of times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and maybe some occasional light scratches. If there is any surface noise it will be occasional, light and unobtrusive. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has obviously been played a lot and while it still plays through OK, it will have a lot of surface marks and/or light scratches (maybe also the occasional 'feelable' scratch) and most likely there there will be regular and noticeable surface noise. The cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine and/or seam splits, discoloration, etc.
