BOP-A-LENA
Ronnie Self was a real bottle rocket of an artist. He made a few records, and nearly every one of them is a classic. In the late '50s his rockabilly platters were top notch, even if on major labels. Knowing how much Mitch Miller hated R&R (he was in charge of A&R over at Columbia), it's a wonder that this ever got recorded in the fall of 1957. Ronnie's got quite a bit of growl to his voice.
This single is a classic of the genre. "Bop-A-Lena” has appeared on over a dozen rockabilly compilation Lps and CDs.
