Peter Broggs´ positive outlook and unwavering commitment to a roots and culture style have made him a fan favorite (despite his occasionally pitch-challenged vocals), particularly in the U.S. & in the new millenium in Europe. Born Henry James in 1954 in Hanover Parish, Westmoreland, Jamaica, Broggs moved to Kingston when he was 17, finding work in a factory, where eventually his Rastafari beliefs (and increasingly long dreadlocks) led to his dismissal. Undaunted, he recorded "Vank Out" (backed by the Roots Radics) at his own expense at Channel One, followed by "African Sister" a few months later, which led to the Eric ´Bingy Bunny` Lamont-produced album "Progressive Youth in 1979. Impressed by the album, Doctor Dread, founder of Ras Records, contacted Broggs in Jamaica, eventually releasing "Rastafari Liveth!" (again recorded at Channel One) in 1982 as the first official Ras Records album. "Rise & Shine" followed in 1985, "Cease The War" in 1987, "Reasoning"in 1990 and "Rejoice" in 1997. In 2000 Broggs recorded an album with British Dub-Heroes Jah Warrior, called "Jah Golden Throne" (followed by a dub version), his first appearance with European sound-system culture. It seems he was impressed by the powerfull digital riddims that the Jamaican music industry of that time couldn´t offer.

Published at the end of 2005 in exclusively vinyl format, the album "Igzabihir Yakal" is the result of the cooperation between dutch producer Dub Creator and Broggs, which happend in Dub Creator's studio in 2001. Igzabihir Yakal means "Jah see and know all things". The six vocal songs on the album are followed by related dubs in the typical Dub Creator style, - and the total is proving that Broggs at age of 48 years was in better vocal shape then ever! The hard hitting riddims do the rest.
Often billed as "The International Farmer" (the title of one of his songs about cropping ganja), Broggs currently lives in Lucea, Jamaica, where poor health and declining eyesight have forced him to cut back on his musical activities. As you might know, Broggs has survived a stroke in 2004. He is slowly recovering from the mentioned, so we can only hope to hear Peter's voice on some other record in the future. Until then, and if that ever happens, this one remains his latest album.
