THE ROSE of ALGERIA
3 PRIVATE MGM STUDIO TEST PRESSINGS
of an UNMADE VICTOR HERBET MGM Movie Musical
CONDITION: VG++
These are very professionally produced & performed discs that were made by MGM contract players & orchestra just for MGM brass to decide if they wanted to make this show into an MGM movie musical. They are from the personal library of Nat Finston who was an Orchestra conductor & general Music Director for films from Paramount & MGM between 1928 & 1945. It is from his daughter Beatrix Padway's estate.
It includes a typewritten 7 page synopsis with suggestions and critque. It also includes lyrics. Last page is loose.
Also includes a Nat Finston initialed sleeve.
The 3 discs are 2 sided and numbered from 24513 to 24518.
Scratched in the dead wax of record 1 is MGM 24513 ROSE OF ALGERIA RECORD 1 PART 1 the other discs have the dead wax scratchings appropriate to that disc.
I just noticed I forgot to take a picture of the numbers on these discs so here is a here they are.

September 21, 1909, Tuesday- " The Rose of Algeria," which is the "Algeria" of last season, disguised by new lines, new jokes, and new actors, opened at the Herald Square Theatre last night. The enthusiasm of the audience was aroused not only by Victor Herbert's music, but by the humor of the speeches and the quality of the acting and singing as well.
