Rough Cutt Self tilted debut album
I have spent many hours on different albums and listening formats with the Rough Cutt catalog but this title is where it all started. Paul Shortino was and remains an absolute powerhouse singer and this album is a showcase for his ability. Paired with him was hotshot LA guitarist Amir Derakh...at the time he was in all the guitar magazines alongside the likes of George Lynch, Paul Gilbert and other up and coming guitar visionaries. Post Rough Cutt he did take a bit of a different path musically as he went on to form Orgy...but that is a different story. This album is one of the foundational blocks of what became possibly the biggest music scene of all time...LA in the eighties. Promotion and timing is the only reason this band is not as well known now as some of the bigger bands from that scene. The songwriting was there, the riffs were there, the vocals...but alas the music industry squandered way more talent than they brought to the masses. They eventually squandered the whole industry. This is a great one to crank on your newly reformed giant two channel stereo you just put together with a vintage turntable. Capture the actual sound of your youth and introduce your speaker to some 80's metal from the Sunset Strip.
So whoever bought this new thirty five years or so ago was much smarter than me. While I tore the cellophane off in the car...even though I couldn't actually even play the record in the car...they made a surgical incision in the sleeve cut and left the cellophane on the jacket to protect it. It's still there. It even has the price tag of the long defunct record store the original purchase was made from. The inner sleeve is one of those stupid plastic bag things the record companies started using around the mid eighties, probably becasue they saved money and they didn't have to entertain the idea of liner notes. there is a picture of it in the original bag. The record itself looks to have been played very little if a all. No way to know but there is nothing to really note about it. I added pictures of each side but you really can't tell much from them as they are pretty reflective. I did also try and get close up pictures of the standard type album jacket flaws, but corners and stuff like that. Look at the pictures as they are part of the description.
