Another from my personal collection. Purchased from new in 1972, and originally only ever played to record to tape, then stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the record sleeve and cover for protection. This is how I have always stored my records! This album has been preserved in this awesome condition for over 38 years, Roxy music debut album, becoming very collectable and sought after  like this! Very near pristine fully laminated 1st issue gatefold! The vinyl looks and plays like it has barely ever been played at all!

Roxy Music is the debut album by art rock band Roxy Music, released in June 1972. It was generally well-received by contemporary critics and made #10 in the UK charts!

The opening track, "Re-Make/Re-Model", has been labelled a post-modernist pastiche, featuring solos by each member of the band echoing various touchstones of Western music, including The Beatles' "Day Tripper", Duane Eddy's version of "Peter Gunn" and Wagner’s "Ride of the Valkyries"; the esoteric chorus "CPL 593H" was supposedly the license number of Bryan Ferry's car!

 Eno produced some self-styled 'lunacy' when Ferry asked him for a sound "like the moon" for the track "Ladytron". "If There Is Something" was later covered by David Bowie's Tin Machine!

A number of songs were thematically linked to movies. "2HB", with its punning title, was Ferry’s tribute to Humphrey Bogart and quoted the line "Here’s looking at you, kid" made famous by the film Casablanca (1942);

"Chance Meeting" was inspired by David Lean's Brief Encounter (1945). "The Bob" took its title from Battle of Britain (1968) and included a passage simulating the sound of gunfire!

The band had been rehearsing and re-working the songs for a couple of months before they finally found a recording place, after which the entire album was recorded in the space of a single week. This was necessary because there was no record deal as yet, and their managers at EG were financing the sessions themselves. The album was produced by King Crimson's lyricist, Peter Sinfield, who recently had left that band. In May 1972, a few weeks after the recording sessions, a contract was signed with Island Records and in June the album was released.!

The vinyl

On initial inspection the vinyl looks superb In fact this has hardly ever been played at all! Perhapes  THREE times by me personaly only! (You can barely see a handful of spider marks on the labels when angled to the light, these can even be counted on one hand only!) This has been stored in a case for the best part of 25 years! Any marks that could possibly be seen under a strong light would be sleeve removal marks only, and very slight dulling on one side!(NO) NEEDLE OR AUDIO SOUNDING MARKS at least nothing that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops (AMAIZINGLY  IT IS HARD FOR ME TO  SEE A BLEMISH AT ALL)!

The Audio Quality

I have play tested the vinyl two times prior to this listing at very loud volume on a top system!  The first thing to note is that I heard (no) loud constant clicks, pops or any grooveware what so ever!  Super vibrant throughout, only heard like this on the earliest press only, can not be surpassed by later press! Please note! Please make some allowances for these Island pressings which often suffer from slight static crackle /ticks that may be heard on some systems, but for the fact that this vinyl has obviously barely been played makes all the difference indeed.  Audio graded at least Excellent plus to very near mint in my opinion! (very slight static heard in isolated very quiet places only)

please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the light static  (not) consistant throughout the audio! This is a genuine 36 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 36 year old system!!

This vinyl has been stored in a case for the best part of 25 years and could benefit from a constant clean before each play! This would greatly reduce any static crackle and greatly enhance the audio quality!!!

The record Sleeve

This is the original blue ISLAND record sleeve  with patent number and 'Made in England' SUPERBE CONDITION light creases and light staining with age only, no splits or tares. Original!

The Cover

This is the original and more desirable FULLY LAMINATED 'TINSLEY ROBOR GROUP' GATEFOLD COVER! In exceptional condition for a 1st press super glossy (no) real storageware to mention! (no) marks\dents in the laminate! minor half moon crease at the rear middle that was there from new , but not realy noticed unless looked for. The corners are lovely and sharp (no) real main creases worth to talk of indeed!  SUPERBE 1ST PRESS COVER! VERY NEAR PRISTINE IN MY OPINION!
