·       The bidders should note that this is a rare Bob Ludwig-mastered “hot pressing” of this album, with his initials “RL” (Robert Ludwig) etched in the trail-off vinyl of the disc. All the wonderful elements of Bob Ludwig’s trademark mastering style are here: incredible clarity and balanced channel separation, vivid and spacious “ambience” sound, as well as wide dynamic and frequency range of the sound spectrum.  As is almost always the case with Bob Ludwig’s masterings, the Bob Ludwig-mastered pressings of this album are CONSIDERABLY rarer than the regular, non-Ludwig copies of this album.

To Roxy Music's credit, their later albums moved on in style to new ground. Some fans would have preferred their style and output to remain something akin to the early 'For Your Pleasure' sound. Flesh & Blood is the sound of 'new Roxy Music'. It is smooth and highly professional, but retains the humanity and soul given by Ferry's voice, Mackay's excellent saxophone work, and Manzanera's masterful guitar lead.

There are only 2 faults with the album. It is the 2 covers "In The Midnight Hour" and "Eight Miles High" that lack the spark present in the Roxy-created original tracks. The covers are good, but possibly forgettable when compared to the much superior Ferry-penned tracks on the album.

Flesh & Blood could be described as Roxy Music's most commercial album attempt. 'Commerical' or 'Pop' are dirty words to some purists and/or musical zealots, but those terms don't necessarily mean that the music itself has to be sub-standard. And the songs on Flesh & Blood are perfect examples of popular rock that manage to rise above most other pretenders. The original tracks are hard to fault. The lyrics are as well-crafted as ever by Ferry, the riffs and melodies are fantastic and very memorable, the playing is tight from all members, and the production level is a good step up from 'Manifesto'.

Out of the tens of thousands of songs from different artists I have heard, there is one song that I rate above all others. It is on Flesh & Blood. The finest uptempo track from Roxy Music is the highlight of this album. Ferry is a genius for having written "Same Old Scene".

Flesh & Blood is not a bold or brash album. It tries to achieve a level of silken aural seduction and succeeds effortlessly, thanks in no small part to Ferry's rich vocals. It is sentimental, intelligent, and lush. It is popular rock. And it is superb

These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record comes in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUE to this album.

(c)             The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2  (front side) and 4 (back side)

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps (except for the promo stamp)

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels (except for the promo timing strip)

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
