EVEN THOUGH WITH SHRINK, THE LACQUERED FRONT COVER APPEARS TO HAVE SOME LIGHT RUB WEAR AND RING WEAR. WHITE CARD STOCK COVER HAS AGED SLIGHTLY AND IS NOTICEABLE AROUND THE EDGES, WITH SOME LIGHT STAINING ON THE FRONT EDGES. . SHRINK PARTIALLY LOOSE ON SLEEVE EDGE AND SMALL PIECE MISSING FROM BACK TOP LEFT. PLEASE NOTE THE LACQUERED COVER MAY BE CLEANED, BUT WE DID NOT REMOVE THE SHRINK SINCE IT APPEARS ORIGINAL.

VIRGIN SPINDLE HOLE. APPEARS PRISTINE OUT OF THE SLEEVE; UNDER BRIGHT ANGLED LIGHT THERE ARE A FEW LIGHT AND FINE SURFACE MARKS/RUBS/PLAY LINES THAT MUST BE LOOKED FOR ASSIDUOUSLY TO BE SEEN. I'VE TEST PLAYED THIS ON THE VPI TURNTABLE AND THERE IS SOME LIGHT SURFACE NOISE THROUGHOUT. HARD TO DISTINGUISH IF A RESULT OF THE COSMETIC ITEMS OR THE WONDERFUL QUALITY CONTROL OF THE KING PRESSING PLANT, NOTORIOUS FOR POORLY PRESSED LPS THAT NEVER SOUND MINT EVEN WHEN SEALED.

This first volume of King's Battle of the Blues series features two of the label's biggest acts: Roy Brown and Wynonie Harris. Having already made their names in the late '40s as premier blues shouters on the R&B and jump blues circuit, both singers migrated to the Cincinnati independent and reached even loftier chart heights. Brown takes up the first side with seven sides of his animated and gospel-fired vocals, including the classic "Boogie at Midnight." For his part, Harris indulges his rougher-hewn vocal cords for an update of his big smash, the Brown-penned "Good Rockin' Tonight," and one of his all-time King highlights, "Bloodshot Eyes." For some whiskey-soaked R&B nostalgia, this fine collection is hard to beat.
