There Is Only One Roy Orbison is the seventh album recorded by Roy Orbison, and his first for MGM Records, released in July 1965. It features his studio recording of "Claudette", an Orbison-penned song which had become a hit for The Everly Brothers in 1958. Ironically, at the time he recorded the song in 1965, he had divorced his wife Claudette who had inspired the lyrics. Orbison later re-recorded the song for "In Dreams: The Greatest Hits" in 1985. (They later reconciled in 1966, before her death in a motorcycle accident in June of that year near Galatin, Tennessee). The single taken from it, though, was "Ride Away", which reached #25 in the US charts, #12 in Australia and #34 in the UK.

In 1965, Roy Orbison was riding high with the hit single "Oh, Pretty Woman", which was Number One globally, when word got about that his Monument contract was due to expire in June. Roy was very interested in Hollywood and signed to MGM Records for one-million dollars for three albums per year from 1965-1985. Half of the million dollars went to Decca's London Records. He also was looking for freedom when he signed with the label. His producer for Monument Records, Fred Foster and Orbison's manager Wesley Rose were having disagreements about whether or not to keep Orbison. This album charted at #10 in the UK and #55 (#41 on Cash Box, while reaching the Top 30 on Record World) in the US. It was recorded at RCA Studio B where Orbison recorded some of his biggest hits in the early 1960s

(b)          The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)           The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS STILL SEALED; HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT MINT OR NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS VG++(A LARGE  PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP - ABOUT 20% - IS MISSING); 

(PLEASE NOTE: THE SHRINK WRAP HAS BEEN SLIT OPEN ALONG ALMOST THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE BOTTOM SEAM  ; ONLY A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP OF ABOUT 1 INCH REMAINS INTACT,  BUT THE ALBUM IS STILL VISIBLY SEALED; TO PREVENT THE SMALL PIECE OF SEALED SHRINK WRAP FROM SNAPPING IN TRANSIT, WE HAVE REINFORCED THE VULNERABLE SPOT WITH A TINY PIECE OF CLEAR SCOTCH TAPE, WHICH CAN BE EASILY REMOVED)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the bottom seam

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         The cover has a distinct X-shaped, pressure-type cutout stamp. This type of cutout marking was used exclusively by MGM and Verve labels and was more discreet and sensitive than the other types of marking (such as cutout holes or drill marks), as it did not require the cover to be damaged.
