Released in 1980, Permanent Waves arrived in the midst of Rush’s golden period, a remarkable run where the Canadian prog masters seemed incapable of putting a foot wrong.

Their seventh LP in all, it marked a transition from the band’s long, conceptual pieces into a more accessible, radio-friendly style.

This was reflected not only on such rock airplay hits as The Spirit of Radio and Freewill, but also the fact the album became their first US top 5 hit, and a platinum seller to boot.
