After a long pause following Vapor Trails and the R30 tour, Rush regrouped in 2006 with a clear aim: write as a band again, without overcorrection. Snakes & Arrows sits late in their career as a consolidation record, shaped by renewed internal momentum and the presence of co-producer Nick Raskulinecz, whose enthusiasm pushed them back to complexity and physical performance. Neil Peart's lyrics reflect the period directly, drawing on religion, conflict and doubt encountered during his motorcycle travels across the US, while the music reintroduces asymmetrical meters and extended instrumental passages, including three instrumentals, more than on any previous Rush album. It marked their full return to touring and closed the studio chapter of their catalogue.
