There's no doubt the music world collectively mourned with the death of Arthur Russell. But then it wouldn't be pushing things too far to say that the scale of that loss is still only being reckoned with now, almost 30 years on. Each passing posthumous release seems to invite us into new parts of his work; secret corridors that didn't manage to see the light of day back when he was alive, but certainly should have done.

Iowa Dream is the latest and arguably one of the finest since his passing. The record is varied beyond the point of comprehension, showcasing Russell's flagrant disregard for genre, his mastery of songwriting, and powerful imagination across 19 demos that are far better than most people sound after full mix-down and mastering. Simply incredible. Again.
