DESCRIPTION
Ruth Price / The Johnny Smith Quartet - “Ruth Price Sings With The Johnny Smith Quartet” Royal Roost Records RLP 2217 (Mono) from 1956. Great Female Jazz Vocal Album from Ruth Price with accompaniment from The Johnny Smith Quartet! On the hard to find Original Deep Groove Royal Roost Mono Blue with Silver Print labels.

CONDITION

The Sleeve shows some basic ring and edge shelf wear and a bit of corner softening. There are some light pencil notations on the back - should be easy to erase - and an “Inspected by 569” Stamp which I think is how it came from the factory as I’ve seen the exact same stamp on other versions of this same LP. Still very solid with no other writing, splits, tears, stains, cutouts, etc. and I would still say it should easily rate at least VG and maybe better. The Vinyl itself is in Glossy condition and, judging by the lack of any visible spindle trails on the labels, I don’t think it was actually played that much. There are some scuffs and hairlines but nothing that can be felt with a fingernail i.e. no actual scratches. Visually I’d probably call it a VG but plays very well. There is some light background groove noise but, honestly, I’ve found most Roost albums to have this problem. Beyond that and a handful of light tics and crackles - no pops or anything, plays at least to VG level. The labels are Near Mint.

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less!
