Description

Ruth White: 7 Trumps from the Tarot Cards (196? for electronic sound); Pinions (1968 for electronic sound)Limelight LS-86058 dj USA 1968.  Hard to find a copy of this album containing 2 great early electronic works made in White's private studio using a Moog Synthesizer, variable speed tape recorders, oscillators, modulators, electronic organ, electronic clavichord, piano, harpsichord, and reveberation devices. Pinions was made for a dance piece by choreographer Eugene Loring. In the notes, White offers her strange psychedelic vision of the inevitable electronically enhanced future these pieces are meant to invoke: "We will see new sights and old treasures as if they actually existed in real dimension via holography. We will hear music that travels and sound illusions that shrink and expand space. Rooms will be covered with skins of liquid crystals and electrical circuits. Electric couches will shock and move, and ceilings will rotate. We may be evolving toward art or sensations to be absorbed in a comatose state..." This rare lp was issued by the Limelight electronic-psych-jazz label known for their releases of Pierre Henry, Dick Raaijmakers, Tom Dissevelt, Electrosoniks, Mecki Mark Men, Fifty Foot Hose, Bengt Hambraeus, Henk Badings, Beaver & Krause, Roland Kirk, Paul Bley, Electronic Concept Orchestra, Melvin Jackson, etc. White was an American early electronic composer with her own private studio who released several experimental and pop electronic records in the 1960s and also made many children's educational recordings; she was among the first women to experiment with electronic composition, along with Pauline Oliveros, Bebe Baron, Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux, and Pril Smiley. This work compares to Morton Subotnick, Ilhan Mimaroglu, Douglas Leedy, Mort Garson, Bruce Haack, Michel Philippot, Philippe Arthuys, Francois Bernard Mache, Francois Bayle, Dump the Wonder Panda, Bernard Parmegiani, Tod Dockstader, Vladimir Ussachevsky, Otto Luening...
