HANK MOBLEY LP ROLL CALL (Blue Note Records 4058). Released 1961.
** Contains the original Blue Note inner sleeve showing all the great Blue Note treasures of the day! **
"RVG" & the ear are stamped in the dead wax to note that this original mono Deep Groove pressing was mastered by a Mr. Rudy Van Gelder. Label is the vintage blue & white Deep Groove Blue Note W. 63rd St. label. Beautiful rich sepia-tone laminated cover from 1961 by photographer Francis Wolff. One scratch of substance, which is confined to the very last song; the rest of the disc remains in pretty nice shape. Thick, well-made platter with rounded edge is constructed of high-quality materials.
For those who collect antiquated price tags, the original record store price tag still remains on the back cover (4.99!). With drummer Art Blakey, plus Paul Chambers, Wynton Kelly & Freddie Hubbard. (Etched Matrix number in squigly letters: "BN-LP 4058 A/B W 1 RVG").
COVER - VG+
No seam splits or ring wear. No creases, puncture holes, tears, writing or cut-out marks. The glossy spine looks quite nice & is all readable. The remarkable sepia-toned cover photo retains great color & sheen. Small amount of corner banging, but no dog-ears or tatters. Nice flat cover free of bends, bows, waves or ripples. Small price tag (half-inch) does not mar the back cover. Small amount of rubbing and some small very faint one-inch water stains on back right at the edge. Label looks great with no marks, writing, cuts or stickers. Precisely-cut hole with some faint transparent spindle scuffs.
DISC - VG-
The two-inch scratch of substance begins about a minute into the last song, "The Breakdown" and yields a loud tick for over half the song. The tick ends before the song ends. The rest of the disc has some faint scuffs & hairline flecks which yield a very low amount of background noise. Free of warping or residue on the disc or dead wax. Fairly good surface sheen on the thick, high-quality platter. Album has been stored upright in a climate-controlled environment.
