HERBIE HANCOCK LP EMPYREAN ISLES (Blue Note Records BLP 4175). Released 1964.
The matrix number stamp is deep & distinct, so this should be a hot-sounding pressing. "VAN GELDER" & the ear are stamped in the dead wax to note that this original mono pressing was mastered by a Mr. Rudy Van Gelder. Label is the vintage blue & white Deep Groove Blue Note Records Inc. New York USA. The W. 63rd St. address is printed on the back cover.
Beautiful rich sepia-tone laminated cover by photographer Francis Wolff. Cover designed by Reid Miles. The disc remains in nice shape with a good-looking reflective sheen and a minimum of minor surface marks. No deep scratches, two minor marks, plus a light paper scuff. Thick, well-made platter with rounded edge is constructed of high-quality materials. In spite of the wear, the front cover imparts a great deal of visual pleasure. Photographer Francis Wolff's aqua sepia-tone picture is to die for. With drummer Anthony (Tony) Williams, plus bassist Ron Carter & trumpeter Freddie Hubbard. (Etched Matrix number in squigly letters: "BNLP 4715-A/B VAN GELDER").

Looks very nice from the front. No front ring wear. No creases, bubbles, puncture holes, or cut-out marks. Most of the dented spine is readable. Around on the back, four inches of sharpie writing at top of back cover. Moderate edge wear and a small amount of rubbing on back. A few tiny paper scuffs on front. The remarkable sepia-toned cover photo retains great color & sheen. Noticeable amount of corner banging, with worn-through corners and three quarter-inch seam splits at the corners. Nice flat cover free of bends, bows, waves or ripples. Label looks great with no scuffs, cuts or stickers. Sharp, precisely-cut hole with some faint transparent spindle scuffs.
DISC - E-
No deep scratches. Just two light marks and a faint paper scuff. Free of skips, warping or residue on the disc or dead wax. Very nice surface sheen on the thick, high-quality unchipped, uncracked platter. Album has been stored upright in a climate-controlled environment.
