KENNY CLARKE LP BOHEMIA AFTER DARK (Savoy Records). Released 1955.
Rare Savoy Deep Groove mono pressing from 1955. Drummer Kenny Clarke's 1955 masterpiece features Horace Silver piano, Donald Byrd trumpet, Paul Chambers bass, Nat Adderley cornet, Jerome Richardson tenor & flute & Julian "Cannonball" Adderley alto sax. Hank Jones plays piano on one of the cuts. Recording session supervised by Ozzie Cadena. Kenny & Paul played on many of those stupendous Miles Davis albums, didn't they??
Pressed on a nice thick - one might say massive - slab of vinyl. The apparent scratches will hold up pretty well due to the superior materials & workmanship. The front of the cover radiates wonderful color tones from one of the most engrossing cover designs I have seen. The photographer is not credited and that is a drop-dead crime. Also admire the beautiful shades of silver & red on the vintage Savoy label. The front face looks pretty nice with no creases, tape, stickers, ring wear or heavy marks. There is browning around the edges. The back side has a mild degree of browning & a bit of rubbing. As you turn over the cover, you will see the splits along three inches of the top edge and along the entire spine.
For three of the cuts, instead of noting the composer, it simply says "alto solo" or "cornet solo" or "flute solo" in the parentheses where the composer is usually listed. I am guessing that these solos are regarded as so brilliant that the name of the composer one would not dare to reveal. (Etched Matrix Number: "MG 12017A X20 RVG B").

No smudges, ink spills, writing, stickers, puncture holes, cut-out marks, or price tags, or color fading. Slight ring wear but no speckling. Some seam splitting & edge wear is evident. Illustration & print are sharp and are free of sun washout. Moderate corner banging. Sharp cut hole with faint spindle brushings.
DISC - VG-
There are marks & slight scratches on the disc surface. The surface noise will be not harsh but tolerable, I believe. There are no skips & the platter is quite flat with no warping. It's a great album and sometimes to attain greatness, one must persevere & rise above these minor misfortunes of life. Album has been stored upright in a climate-controlled environment.
