Description
This is a set of good-condition 78rpm records in the original album, the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 2 in C Minor.
This is with Sergei Rachmaninoff performing the concerto with Leopold Stowkowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Interestingly, the inside back cover of the album, where Victor Records would be advertising their other offerings indicates this album is with Moiseivitch and the London Philharmonic - not sure if that is a different performance of the concerto or a change that created a typo. Moot point I guess.
There are (5) records, each in a heavy-stock jacket in the album (see photos). All three movements are across the five records.
The only condition flaw I could find was a small chip on the edge of one of the albums (see photo) that incurs into the first few grooves. Now I'm not sure how these records were cut into the shellac, but there may be a slight overlap in the performance from the previous side into the new side - meaning, it might be that the chipped piece is a copy of the end of the previous side(?). Again, not sure about this but my point is that the musical performance may still be intact; if not, it will be minus a few seconds of music.
The overall condition is good or better, the records still have some glossiness and are not grayed-out in the way that records get when they are played a lot.
Also as a bonus - if the buyer wants, this sale would come with one more orphaned 78 record, Rachmaninoff performing his Rhapsody for piano and orchestra, Variations and Theme of Paganini. No jacket but I can pack it securely with the rest.
