PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LISTING PICTURE IS GENERIC AND NOT THE ACTUAL SHOW LISTED BELOW. ALL RADIO SHOWS OF WSM'S GRAND OLD OPRY LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME EXCEPT FOR THE PROGRAM NUMBER SO IT MAKES IT EASIER TO JUST LIST ONE PICTURE FOR THE SERIES
Hello Again, friends of great music! This show, for all you vinyl lovers, and there are a bunch out there judging by the number of you that have responded to my rare and old vinyl radio show sales, is a rare vinyl that you will not find on eBay ever.
It is called GRAND OLE OPRY and aired on WSM NASHVILLE TENNESSEE.
It was an enormously popular show in its day and is THE official transcription of the actual Grand Ole Opry performances of the greatest country artists in the United States.
I got this show as part of a library of over 1000 rare country lp radio shows from a private collector. I do not know if it was ever distributed or was just made for WSM for rebroadcast on their station. I presume that it had limited distribution but to be absolutely truthful I have never seen any of these before. It may well be because they are so old. I think I can date them to 1963-64 when the show was first made.
That being said, they do show their age. There are minor scuffs and surface scratches here and there on some of them (most are perfectly clean) but I do not think any of the scuffs will affect their sound quality. They come in what looks like a station library heavy lp sleeve with the information about the show written on the top and a filing label on the upper right corner of the sleeve.
It was a one hour show and featured the weekly show with of course all performances live. That is what makes this show so rare and desirable. You will hear all the greatest and up and coming members of the Grand Ole Opry in concert including the first performances on the Opry for many artists.
Each show contained from 10 to 12 live performances. It is an enthralling hour that will captivate you. You will be disappointed when it is over.
This show is #160 and featured many great live performances
There are no cue sheets for these shows but the artists in concert are listed on the lp sleeve. On this show you will hear
host Marty Robbins The Willis Brothers Willie Nelson The Browns Ernie Ashworth Grandpa Jones Dottie West and Curly Fox
Marty Robbins has 7 performances and the Willis Brothers have two performances
Ruby Ann Devil Woman Begin To You ; Medley: I Turned and Walked Slowly Away, Many Tears Ago, I Could Never Be Shamed of You; Bouquet of Roses Singing The Blues Don't Worry About Me and Ribbon of Darkness - Marty Robbins
Strange Old Town and Gimme 40 Acres - Willis Brothers
Touch Me - Willie Nelson No Sad Songs For Me - Browns Love Has Come My Way - Ernie Ashworth Eight More Miles To Louisville - Grandpa Jones Didn't I - Dottie West and Unknown Waltz - Curly Fox
It is a great show. It is a great hour. The music is GREAT! You will love this show and it belongs in your collection.
It is a piece of radio history. You just aren't going to find these shows anymore. Think of what they will be worth in a few years! (IF you wanted to sell.) I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price
