After Dick Clark left Mutual Broadcasting System to go back to his roots at his own United Stations Radio Network, Mutual continued the National Music Survey show that Dick had made famous and which had hundreds of affiliates at the time of his leaving. Dick started a similar countdown show at United Stations called Countdown America with Dick Clark and took many of the Mutual affiliates with him for his new show. However, many remained for the next generation of National Music Survey which kept the same basic format except that it went from the Top 30 with Dick Clark to the Top 25. This allowed more extra features that listeners so enjoyed above and beyond the countdowns. This new National Music Survey survived into the early 90's, perhaps 1991 when most shows still in production on lp switched over to CD. I have never seen a National Music Survey on CD so I presume that it did not make it that long. In the late 80's Mutual had evolved into the Westwood One Radio Networks and the show continued till its end on Westwood One. It was a three hour Top 25 Countdown on three BEAUTIFUL stereo virgin vinyl rcords that look like the day they were pressed. This baby was played once and once only, the day it was aired. The records themselves are very attractive. The cue sheets are in fair condition with some dj marks on them marking the segments as they passed. . The national commercials are included on this show and beleive me, from 20 years ago, they are fun to hear again. We have come a long way, baby! Not convinced yet? You really need this show in your collection. You have a unique opportunity to get some of the best shows ever made. All the artists featured in this series helped define rock music through their work. You will hear not only great tunes. but also interviews and stories about the artists and their music that you have never heard before. The soundtrack of our lives were shaped by this music and you will reminisce thinking of those people, events and where you were in your life. The stereo lp version of this show was only sent to the top 175 Metro markets. Smaller markets had to take the satellite feed. So at the very most there were only 175 copies of each show ever. How many survived as did the ones I have is anyone's guess. but you can own one of them!!! Remember, when you buy this show, not only will you own the tunes but also interspersed between songs is fascinating commentary on the artists and songs. Also, keep in mind that this and all the oldies and countdown shows I offer to you are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere. It is the mixture of great music and great announcing that makes it so entertaining. As well, it is a piece of radio history. You just aren't going to find these shows anymore. Think of what they will be worth in a few years! (IF you wanted to sell.) I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price; in fact, believe it or not, I paid a lot more than you will because I tried to get the entire collection of this syndicated show. I almost made it but then the sources dried up. The dj from whom I bought the ones I had left the station, and subsequent ones I bought were hit or miss in terms of what I had or did not have. I finally gave up. I am saving those shows I treasure the most and sharing the rest with you for very reasonable prices. Those I do not sell, I will just keep! Most people even enjoy the national commercials that are included on the show because some 25-30 years later they sound good! Included on this show are Mineral Ice, Avis Rent a Car, Yoplait, Norell Services, Betty Crocker, and more. As you can see, only the Best National Advertisers, paid their money to advertise on this show. In fact, some people buy the shows for the commercials they collect! Either way, it is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection.
