Description
One of the things this GREAT Weekly pop music countdown show, Top 30 USA with Machine Gun Kelly, that most distinguished it, was that CBS Radio Entertainment spared nothing in giving week after week the best music and features of any weekly top hits countdown show. There was a lot of competition for audience because of all the countdown shows, so CBS took one of the biggest stars of radio - Machine Gun Kelly, and combined it with a great format. M.G. Kelly has been one of America's most popular dj's and producers since radio shows that were syndicated started. One of his biggest producing credits is the famous "Live From The 60's with the Real Don Steele", an extremely rare show that recreated a year of the 60's every hour as if it were live. Talk about innovation and creativity and MG Kelly will always be there. Each week's show contained not only the top 30 of the week but a featured artist theme or subject theme which mixed oldies with the countdown, something you just don't hear anymore in countdown shows. There are also great interviews and other unique features. It was a super, super show. See for yourself! If you liked the 80's, you will love Top 30 USA. If you liked the 50's and 60's, you'll love Top 30 USA. Other countdown shows of this era included Dick Clark and Rick Dees and of course there was Casey who always ruled the ratings, but he relied on his personality. The commercials absolutely killed you. Believe me! Buy an American Top 40 and see for yourself. You often heard one or at the most two songs for each segment and then minutes and minutes and minutes and minutes of commercials. When you buy these radio shows you get commercials, Casey, and then the music. That's not the way it is supposed to be. The music is what drives the shows and then after that you want the interviews. Casey gave you commercials, features and then music and rarely interviews. . So why do Casey shows sell for so much? I don't know to tell you the truth. This show gives you everything - music, interviews, special features and personality. You won't get a long distance dedication which was always so phony and written by Casy's staff (Casey is not that smart) but you will get real interviews and real music. This show comes on three BEAUTIFUL stereo virgin vinyl records that look like the day they were pressed. This baby was played once and once only, the day it was aired (or not at all). The records themselves are very attractive with the Top 30 logo over the top and on the bottom the program information and the CBS logo. It is enclosed in an attractive album with the CBS Radio Radio logo emblazoned across the front. The cue sheets are in excellent condition. The entire show was syndicated on the CBS Broadcasting System. This is truly a vintage and special show and belongs in your collection. In addition, to the top 30 you will hear may features and inteviews that will blow your socks off. If you like 80's music, this is the show for you. The national commercials are included on this show and beleive me, from 23 years ago, they are fun to hear again. We have come a long way, baby! Not convinced yet? Well, here are EIGHT GREAT SHOWS in the series from 1986 to 1988. Here are the show listings. #149/86 airing on May 9, 1986, #151/86 airing May 23, 1986, #154/86 airing June 13, 1986, #155/86 airing June 20, 1986, #188/87 airing February 6, 1987, #211/87 airing July 13, 1987, #234/87 airing December 21, 1987, and #251/88 airing April 18, 1988. I will list the contents of show #234 which aired on December 21, 1987 so you can see the greatness of Machine Gun Kelly and his show. This show featured flashback songs were from the origins of rock - all great 50's seimnal tunes which is a great mix to the current top 30 of 22 years ago. Heck, the 80's are considered oldies now so in actuality, you are getting two oldies shows packaged brilliantly into one!!!! And, you will note, most oldies stations nor ones specializing in the 80's and 90's will be playing most of these tunes which is a shame because they are great. The featured flashback songs from the Rockin' 50's were Maybelline - Chuck Berry/Johnny Rivers, Good Bolly Miss Molly - Little Richard, See You Later Alligator - Bill Haley and His Comets, Donna - Ritchie Valens, Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran, Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On - Jerry Lee Lewis, Peggy Sue - Buddy Holly, Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino and Hound Dog - Elvis Presley. OK? Here we go, the Top 30 for the week along with all the extras ! Candle In The Wind - Elton John, Brilliant Disguise - Bruce Springsteen, Another Day Gone - rydge, The Way YOu Make Me Feel - Michael Jackson, That's What Love Is All About - Michael Bolton, I Wonder Who She's Seeing Now - Temptations, Seasons Change - Expose, Can't Stay Away From You - Miami Sound Machine, Cherry Bomb - John Cougar Mellencamp, Special Way - Kool and the Gang, Could've Been - Tiffany, Everywhere - Fleetwood Mac, Hungry Eyes - Eric Carmen, S hould've Known Better - Richard Marx, Seeing YOu Again - Dan Fogelberg, New York Hold Her Tight - Restless Heart, All I Want Is You - Carly Simon, I've Had The Time of My Life - Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, Valerie - Steve Winwood, What's Too Much - Smokey Robinson, Motortown - Kane Gang, Brooklyn Blues - Barry Manilow, Dawning On a New Day - M. Tomlinson, Faith - George Michael, Heaven Is a Place On Earth - Belinda Carlisle, Got My Mind Set On YOu - George Harrison, I Live For YOur Love - Natalie Cole, So Emotional - Whitney Houston, Never Thought That - Dan Hill and I Don't Mind at All - Bourgeois Tagg. WOW!!!!!!!! You just cannot beat it. And remember that lp's have far more audio fidelity and quality than do CD's. Especially, when the shows are in such pristine quality. You really need this show in your collection. You have a unique opportunity to get some of the best shows ever made. All the artists featured in this series helped define rock music through their work. You will hear not only great tunes. but also interviews and stories about the artists and their music that you have never heard before. The soundtrack of our lives were shaped by this music and you will reminisce thinking of those people, events and where you were in your life. The stereo lp version of this show was only sent to the top 175 Metro markets. Smaller markets had to take the satellite feed. So at the very most there were only 175 copies of each show ever. How many survived as did the ones I have is anyone's guess. but you can own one of them!!! Remember, when you buy this show, not only will you own the tunes but also interspersed between songs is fascinating commentary on the artists and songs. Also, keep in mind that this and all the oldies shows I offer to you are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere. It is the mixture of great music and great announcing that makes it so entertaining. As well, it is a piece of radio history. You just aren't going to find these shows anymore. Think of what they will be worth in a few years! (IF you wanted to sell.) I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price; in fact, believe it or not, I paid a lot more than you will because I tried to get the entire collection of this syndicated show. I almost made it but then the sources dried up. The dj from whom I bought the ones I had left the station, and subsequent ones I bought were hit or miss in terms of what I had or did not have. I finally gave up. I am saving those shows I treasure the most and sharing the rest with you for very reasonable prices. Those I do not sell, I will just keep! Most people even enjoy the national commercials that are included on the show because some 25-30 years later they sound good! Included on this show are Pontiac with a singing jingle (there are four or five Pontiac commercials spread through the show but I do not know if they are different or not.) , Teledisc with their latest oldies compilation album, a mini show in itself and great listening, Wrigley Gum - Juicy Fruit, Vicks Throat Drops, Hamburger Helper, and more. As you can see, only the Best National Advertisers, paid their money to advertise on this show. In fact, some people buy the shows for the commercials they collect! Either way, it is a great show and would be a valuable addition to your collection. As always, I charge only shipping on the first show you buy for U.S. buyers and discount the shipping for my international friends, so the more you buy the more money you will save. Good Luck and God Bless You.
