“End of the Century,” the fifth studio album by the Ramones, released in 1980 through Sire Records (SRK 6077), marks a significant shift in their musical style. Produced by Phil Spector, this UK-released vinyl LP featured advanced techniques like overdubbing and echo chambers, reflecting Spector’s elaborate production style. With a budget of approximately $200,000, it was the most expensive album in the Ramones’ career. The album diverged from their punk roots towards a pop-oriented sound, aiming to broaden their audience. Despite mixed critical reviews, it achieved notable commercial success, becoming their highest-charting album, and represents the last album with songs credited to Joey, Johnny, and Dee Dee together
