Liner notes by the poet, novelist, dramatist Langston Hughes. Randy Weston was integral to the jazz movement in education, widening the scope and focusing on the African roots of the music and culture he was a part of. After his music career he moved on to collegiate music education, and was well-respected (so much as to have Hughes do the notes for this record). Pretty neat.
