Description
This "Syncopation Souvenir Album" is a rare promotional item from 1942 RKO Radio Pictures movie "Syncopation". While the standard commercial release was a smaller set, this specific piece has been uniquely expanded into an 8-sleeve album. It carries significant historical provenance as a gift from the Boston Theatre in Boston, Mass., as indicated by the original "Compliments of Boston Theatre" stamp on the interior front cover. It is not known if any of the records currently housed in the sleeves are the original discs that came in the album, as the set appears to be a compilation of various labels including Decca, Columbia, OKeh, and Bluebird.
The most valuable feature of this particular album is the first inner sleeve, which contains authentic vintage autographs and personalized inscriptions from famous Big Band leader Tommy Tucker and his featured vocalist Bud Stewart. The records currently included feature many of the legendary jazz and swing stars pictured in the iconic montage on the front cover. The tracklist includes Joe Venuti And His Blue Six performing "Sweet Lorraine" (Decca 18167), Harry James and his Orchestra performing "Wait 'Till The Sun Shines, Nellie" (Columbia 36466), and Connee Boswell performing "When The Roses Bloom Again" (Decca 4279). Also included are Harry James performing "If I Loved You" (Columbia 36806), Benny Goodman and his Orchestra performing "A String Of Pearls" (OKeh 6590), and Charlie Barnet & his Orchestra performing "Isle Of Pines" (Bluebird B-11327). This assembly makes for a one-of-a-kind "All-Star" compilation that perfectly complements the film's tribute to the history of jazz.
The records in this collection are conservatively graded between V+ and E- on the VJM scale. They retain much of their original gloss, with only light surface marks that do not affect playability. The "Genuine Maestro" album itself is structurally sound with a firm spine and intact binding. All 8 internal sleeves are in excellent shape with no tears or seam splits, and the "Compliments of Boston Theatre" stamp remains crisp and legible. The vintage autographs from Tommy Tucker and Bud Stewart on the first sleeve are clear, bold, and well-preserved.
