Description

I date this 10" deep groove jazz LP to 1956 or 1957 a private pressing on the CONCEPT label out of Elizabethtown,Kentucky, which only issued a few 45's and no albums that I can find in the mid 1950's.The album is by THE BILL JOHNS QUINTET and was pressed by SOUTHERN PLASTICS out of Nashville with a dead wax number of SO 151 and 152.Three of the tracks were composed by MENZA (Don Menza?) and the fourth is the jazz classic BERNIE'S TUNE ( You can hear the great Gerry Mulligan's version on YouTube).Sorry I can't give a sound clip but these are some very polished jazz muscians and I doubt they were local.This is not the best copy graded VG but it plays well and it comes in a plain 10" 78 sleeve which is not original to this album....As noted three tracks are by MENZA and this MAY be Don Menza.My research found that he was in the US Army before 1960 and this label is close to the Army base Fort Knox so this MAY be a private pressing done with Don Menza and some of his fellow Army muscians,again they are too good to be local.
