"Gloria" ... Anyone who might think that Van Morrison is more an artifact and purveyor of '70s post-folk singer/songwriter gentle on my mind fare (not that there's anything wrong with that) is referred directly to this mid-'60s debut of his Belfast Ireland band, THEM. "Gloria" alone, an instant standard for garage bands worldwide, should answer any further questions, but the yowling kick of the rest is all the way up to that classic and not to be missed. "Baby Please Don't Go" was a breakthrough single and British EP for Them early in 1965. That led to the recording of this LP. Their hit single "Here Comes The Night" was their biggest hit single. "Gloria", although superior to The Shadows Of Knight's hit version, wasn't the radio play choice because of suggestive lyrics omited by the Shadows Of Knight. The driving rough-house stomper "Mystic Eyes" was a minor-league hit in the US around Christmas time. And there's a cover of "Route 66" here (also done by the Stones in the mid-60s), otherwise most of the material seems to be original. Them were comparable to the Stones with thir hard edged tough sound. Bob Dylan is somewhat restrained by comparison to Van Morrison's breathtaking immersion in tumbling blasts of language, his poetry is accompanied by a bluesy band as raw as the scrapes on knees and elbows after a spill from a cycle. THEM rocks very hard and so does Van Morrison.

CONDITION: The cover is a LAMINATED glossy "EX" (Excellent) = solid with no split seams, no bends and no writing = strong and vibrant colors ...collection keeper 1965 "Flipback" seams original....
The vinyl is still glossy both sides VG+ having ONLY some light soft hairline scuffs...the deep groove pressing plays TOP level, enjoyable!
