Here we have Nellie Melba with two items she recorded for G&T in London in September 1905. (Thank You Robert Johannesson)
They are mx7203b “Old folks at home” (Stephen Foster) (with Gwladys Roberts, Ernest Pike & Peter Dawson) from G&T 3617, and mx7205b “Away on a hill there runs a stream” (Ronald) with Landon Ronald at the piano, from G&T 3619.
They make up two sides of a 10” HMV Red Label “catalogue number 2” pressing from the original stampers, number DA 337.
“Old folks at home” is, of course, the song about the Suwannee/Swanee River which we drove by once in the mid 70’s. It looked delightful, but the highway was littered with dead skunks (it was mating season) so we kept the car windows wound up tight.
The other side features a Landon Ronald song, with the great man at the piano.
This record is as clean as the girl of your dreams, and it shines like a well buffed herring.
Using the VJM grading system (which we find to be vague and imprecise.. but heigh ho, everybody uses it) we reckon that this record is a very nice E.
