1963 Beatles Christmas fan club flexi disc.
Superb condition!
No reserve!
This is The Beatles first, and rarest, Christmas flexi disc, released on the 16th December 1963. It was distributed free to their fans in the UK through 'The Official Beatles Fan Club'. To be in the fan club you were required to pay an annual subscription fee which entitled you to a Christmas flexi, summer poster and fan club letters among other items.
These discs were NOT available to the general public.
According to the cover notes (Newsletter number 2) only 25,000 of these 1963 Christmas fan club discs were ever issued (with many not surviving) it is becoming incredibly rare now.
It was recorded 17th October 1963 on the same day as they recorded 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' and 'This Boy'. The cheeky Beatle humour was in fact written by The Beatles press officer Tony Barrow which is interspersed with crazy versions of 'Good King Wenceslas'. John talks first, thanking everybody, followed by Paul who firstly thanks the fans for the jelly babies, and then quickly declares the band no longer like them. Ringo conveys his thanks, and then George thanks in particular the workers of the fan club. The record fades with more Wenceslas and some 'Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer'.
Condition:
The vinyl is in NEAR MINT condition. The vinyl is unmarked and has not scratches / creases on the playing surface. I have played it once to check the sound quality, and it plays clearly and very well.
It would be completely mint, but for a tiny crease / minor dent at the centre of the disc, near the hole. This is only visible on the reverse, as it is covered by the label on the front. It does not affect the sound quality at all, as it is not near the groove. I mention it, to ensure I have fully described the disc.
The label is in EXCELLENT condition, but does have the original owner's name written on it near the hole
The sleeve has survived remarkably well - these flexis often lack the original sleeve. Excellent condition, except the owner's name is again to be found on the front, and twice inside (see photos). Also there is a small tear on the top right corner of the sleeve. It is about an inch long, but does not cross any of the artwork (see photo). I believe the sleeve was originally a cream colour (rather than looking yellow because of age etc.). The edges of the sleeve show some slight wear too, but overall, I would say 8/10 for condition.
