Rare Beatles November 1963 SWAN Pressing / She Loves You - I’ll Get You / WL RED

This Beatles single was released in September of 1963, several months before the first signs of Beatlemania in the United States would emerge and is an AUTHENTIC-FIRSR PRESSING of “She Loves You” b/w “I’ll Get You”. The original 1963 first pressing of this single was never issued with a picture sleeve. Just imagine, this unknown band, The Beatles, didn’t warrant the extra expense or the promotional value of having a picture sleeve included with their “shot in the dark” single.

Unbelievably it did not chart, failing to break into the Billboard Hot 100 until the release of “I Want To Hold Your Hand” (several months later) initiated the demand for a second release of “She Loves You” which did end up topping the charts.

The offered White Label pressing posted in this listing is one of the original-stock copies that did sell in 1963. After Beatlemania took flight, Swan Records (who only had the licensing rights to the two songs found on this single) rushed a re-release of “She Loves You” using the more familiar 1964 styled Black label with Silver print. This label was used from that point on and until their two year licensing agreement expired. Interestingly “She Loves You” ultimately became Swan’s biggest selling all-time release.

The total sales of the stock White label pressings from 1963 were in the range of 1000 units sold making these AUTHENTIC pressings very rare, even rare back in ‘64. The Black label pressings numbered in the millions, literally.

Some white label pressings from 1963 were used as radio promos and are known to be found with radio station call letters or other “side a” markings for identification.

Another fact attached to this rare pressing is the unbelievable amount of pirated or counterfeit pressings that are out there. You can always see them posted on eBay or at record shows (are there any record shows left?).

I can 100% guarantee the authenticity of this pictured pressing. The labels can be found at the bottom of page 13 in MR. Bruce Spizer’s incredibly detailed book “ The Beatles Swan Song” with the classification number 4152.01C. It’s an indispensable Beatles book for identifying many of their early U.S. pressings released before Capitol Records finally decided The Beatles weren’t a flash in the pan and started releasing Beatles records.

The condition of this single isn’t mint but it’s far from trashed, solid very good I’d state. It plays through fine with just the occasional hint of background noise. There are some marks but nothing that can be felt when running your fingers over the surface of the vinyl, very listenable.

The labels do retain some original gloss and the a-side has a black “X” mark, possibly used as a radio station promo at some point.

Still a nice copy of this true Rock ‘N Roll relic from the days before Beatlemania took the world by storm. It’s a rare record to find in any condition and this offered pressing is very much worthy of a place in the right collection.
