STARTING TODAY I WILL BE LISTING AN ENTIRE NEW COLLECTION OF MANY RARE AND HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE 78 RPM RECORDINGS. TOTALLING OVER 75 RECORDS, THESE WERE PULLED FROM A LARGE, PRIVATE EAST COAST COLLECTOR'S ESTATE. VIRTUALLY ALL OF THESE RECORDS ARE WHAT WAS KNOWN AS 'COON RECORDS', SONGS THAT WERE THE SOCIAL NORM OF THE TIME BUT WOULD BE DEEMED UNACCEPTABLE TODAY, AS THEY PORTRAYED BLACKS IN A DEMEANING MANNER. This early 1900s white and gold label one-sided Victor record numbered 2915 featues a 1904 Bob Roberts coon song called Oysters And Clams, a song made popular by Arthur Collins. Some of the lyrics: "Every week day morning comes a short, fat, greasy coon a-shouting oysters and a thousand clams...he is on the corner every morning and at noon shouting oysters and a thousand clams. In his hand he has two cans wherever he is found, in one there's oysters and the other one clams...makes no difference where you go this coon is always round and smilin' at you as he sings this song!" From there is a comic dialog about selling oysters and clams.
I don't know the origins of the white label but I was told it was a special order from Victor which you could buy from their record library. You would tell them the record you wanted and they would press a copy for you. The label is type written and not printed. This record has the matrix number 15894 which is not related to any Victor library I saw. This record is in excellent+ condition with virtually no wear. Buyer will include $5 for shipping.
