Description
Rare BBC Transcription LP Semprini Serenade 3 & 4
A real example of BBC Transcription Service history. Complete programmes and details.
The records have surface noise but less than expected from 64 year old discs.
Side 1 duration 29' 30" (disc 1 - 17' 15" and disc 2 - 12' 15")
Side 2 duration 29' 28" (disc 1 - 16' 45" and disc 2 12' 43")
There are not so much continuity sheets but scripts detailing the introductions by Semprini.
This set is one of the first Transcription records issued on 12" discs. Records with smaller matrix numbers e.g. 98670 (Goon Show – The Seagoon Memoirs side 1 of 2) were issued on 10" discs with one disc having part one of two programmes and the other disc having part two of the same programmes.
This set has the same arrangement but the discs are 12" in diameter.
By the end of 1959 and matrix numbers around 10000 half hour programme were fitted on one side of a 12" LP.
Much later the Transcription service edited most programmes down to 27' 00" to accommodate commercial stations inserting adverts. Among the earliest of these was 'Sing Something Simple' from 1960. By the sixties practically all 'half hour' comedy programmes were limited to 27 minutes. So these Semprini programmes are unusual as being close to Half an hour.
These LP's were sent to radio stations all over the world. For a fee they would be able to broadcast the programmes on the LP a number of times over a period of about 3 years denoted by the expiry date. The LP was then supposed to be destroyed or returned to the BBC in London. A number of studio / station managers or DJ's must have decided the LP's were too good to throw away! The BBC Transcription Service boast that they supply upwards of 200 Radio stations so the print run of these LP's is probably in that order. As many Radio Stations dutifully did as the BBC asked few of these LP's survived.

If you buy more than one LP and the combined value is less than £50 then wait for an invoice as it costs the same to post two as one . However if the value is £50 or greater the cost is nearly twice that which I have shown so there is little room for a saving. This is because the Post Office compensation is only up to £50 on 'signed for' and for compensation above £50 parcels have to be sent by special 'next day' delivery.
If you buy the record 'by mistake' or simply to record the tracks and no longer want it then sell it on eBay yourself, give it to a charity shop but don't ask to return it. You will be listed as a 'time waster'.
If the item is not as described you will, of course get a full refund.
If the item arrives damaged I refund the cost AFTER a photograph is emailed, via eBay messaging, showing the damage (there are instances when a buyer says an item is damaged when, in reality, it arrived safely, to fraudulently obtain a refund)
Should you have any questions about the item please ask. I don't mind providing additional pictures or information if required.
