PRINCE BUSTER and his ALL STARS - Funky Jamaica B/W Raggae Version (Prince Buster)
Jamaica, '70s
Vinyl and labels are VG++ (see important note below)
Probably the number one sought after funky side from Jamaica, the King of Ska himself takes on the Beginning of The Ends 'Funky Nassau' and gives it his own Jamaican twist, but keeps the funk (and the break!) intact. Killer sounds. Very, very hard to find.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON CONDITION: I have been lucky enough to see 5 actual copies of this 45 in my lifetime, all from different sources, and can verify that each and every one of them suffers from a pretty bad pressing fault. Each copy I've seen has 3 pretty innocuous looking marks on the vinyl in exactly the same position. The effect of this mark varies slightly from copy to copy (I guess the fault became more pronounced towards the end of the run), but in this case causes three incidences of isolated pops - one in the run-in, one around a third of the way through and the last around two thirds of the way through. If the needle is weighted incorrectly (with excessive weight, which you shouldn't have anyway!) then it may even skip on the 2nd mark. But as you can hear from the sound clip below, this plays through fine (needles weighted correctly). You will hear the pops on the sound file. I have seen this listed for sale a few times yet nobody has mentioned this fault, perhaps the sellers hadn't seen enough individual copies to identify it. However, the last copy that sold on ebay did indeed mention '2 slight pops', as you will see if you copy and paste this link:
