Long rare...20+ years ago -- the first release of a 2ndpress --made in Austrian as a very limited exact issue of the legendary USA private press, as stated on back cover: "Recorded in Norwalk CT Sept/Oct 1971" ... this issue has the same top sound quality -- as nicely as the first pressing ...This private press pot of insanity CIRCUIT RIDER literally sounds like hell's angels covering "L.A. Woman." There's no record label, other than a design, "made in Austria" label on back cover, the catalog number is 666, and the orignal pressing was maybe recorded in the early seventies, but no one really knows. Where did the orignial pressing even come from? Connecticut actually, but it sounds a lot more like a deep swamp field recording. A lot of music sounds druggy, this one seems to top it all. The density of the haze within the grooves is thick enough to make you want to take a shower. At times it sounds like Funkadelic with no drums, at others it touches on more of a Canned Heat aesthetic, but always laced with heavy doses of lucid blanketing. The singer has some sort of biker/shaman/howling dog formula that, besides making the lizard king sound like Tom Jones in comparison, doesn't bore the listener with cheesy trippy organ either. In fact the listener is way too frightened to be bored. It basically sounds like what you think of the sixties in your head, even when most actual sixties music sounds like the soundtrack to pictures of somebody's goofy dad wearing bellbottoms. Overall the album has an excellent dark mystical atmosphere mixed with an outlaw biker's feeling and that voice...ah that voice was always a start of many rumours...some say reminding very much characteristic Jim Morrison's voice(like in Phantom's Divine Comedy same title LP from1974) this enforced the urban myth that Morrison's still alive. In some parts reminding also stoned YaHoWa 13 on a motorcycle race on acid. All in all, quite interesting....

The story is that the Circuit Rider LP showed up as a private press album about 1980, with virtually no terms of documentation, though there are suggestions that it was actually recorded in the early 70s. The group are on a serious Doors-jag, with minimal Robby Krieger-style runs generating a wayout take on the atmospherics of “When The Music’s Over” , albeit with a psychos-for-satori overhaul and a buncha lyrics about riding freights and getting high with the ladies. The group are a little more primitive in their chops than Fraction but when they get to testifying over Zig Zag Wanderer-style riffs about ‘burning up highway/put my foot to the floor/smoking at the starting gate/on fire at the finish line/shot off like a bullet/into eternity – yeah!’ the effect is just as blasted. Featuring a vocalist who teleports between sleazy, oracular and drunk-in-a-bikers-jacket at the slightest sniff of fuzz, it makes sense that Acid Archives would’ve listed this as one of the Top 10 private press LPs most likely to be owned by a serial killer. This album has got VT written all over it. Highly recommended.
