Rare MFSL Beatles UHQR Sgt. Pepper's LP MFQR 1-100, 2136/5000, Mobile Fidelity

This is a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MFSL) "Ultra-High Quality Record" (UHQR) of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (catalog number MFQR 1-100). This legendary audiophile LP was produced by Mobile Fidelity in Japan in 1982, and was limited to a production run of only 5,000 copies. This UHQR is number 2136. This set is missing the single sheet "Certificate of Authenticity", but is otherwise complete. The information regarding the Limited Edition serial number that would have appeared on that certificate is duplicated on the back of the innersleeve, so the fact that the certificate is not present is not particularly important. 

I am not an expert on LP grading, but based on what I have read regarding the Goldmine standards, I would conservatively grade the LP in this set as VG+. Both sides are glossy, and I did not notice any scratches or scuffs when viewing it under a bright light. I test played portions of the record, and the sound is excellent, with only a few minor "ticks" and some barely audible surface noise only in the very quietest portions. It really sounds amazing. I also own the standard Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs LP of "Sgt. Pepper's...", and even though that LP sounds great, this UHQR version is noticeably better. 

The outer box of this UHQR would probably grade at about G to VG. There is some minor shelfwear, and the lid has a split at the upper-lefthand corner. The other three corners of the lid are intact, as are all four corners of the bottom of the box. There is a small area near the upper-righthand corner of the box lid where it looks like a sticker was removed, and a couple of very small areas of wear at the lower-righthand corner of the box lid. All of these details can be seen in the images attached to this listing.

The inside contents of the box are all in very nice condition. The Technical Specifications Manual is present in the pocket inside the box lid, and both sheets of foam are in excellent shape. The cardboard innersleeve has about a 2" split along the center of the bottom edge, but is otherwise in very good condition. The original rice paper innersleeve is included, as is the cardboard insert that covers it.

All in all, this is a nice copy of a hard-to-find audiophile LP. While it is not in perfect condition, I believe that the LP would grade at least VG+, and it plays very well. It really does sound amazing, and I have set the Buy It Now price lower than these UHQR's typically sell for.
