Description
This is a very rare complete set of original recordings taken directly from wax cylinder master recordings from 1929.
These FIVE 10” 78 rpm records, published in 1950 by Peabody Museum of Harvard University, were recorded from wax cylinder recordings made in 1929 by Dr. Harry Hoijer for the Museum of Navajo Ceremonial Art. The chants were performed by Son of Bead Chant Singer.
The serigraph cover of the booklet by William Steinel is a reproduction of a sand painting and shows the holy mountains of the four cardinal points with cloud paths leading to them. The footsteps show where the patient to be treated walks to his seat on the small yellow circle. The medicine man sits on the white circle. The mountains represent sources of power, and in this sand painting, this power is invoked to help the patient for whom the ceremony is given.
Condition: Records look unplayed -excellent.
The booklet is excellent.

M (Mint) Brand new-sealed-still in original packaging NM (Near Mint) Opened-maybe played once or twice. Near perfect. VG+ (Very Good Plus) Has been played with slight sign of wear VG (Very Good) Some noise evident/slight wear/no marks on label VG- Noise. Marks or tape on label and ring wear G (Good) Plays without skipping but with significant noise.
