Here we have an Odeon 10 3/4" 78 with an ANNOUNCED START, and we all love an announced start.

This is the much-recorded-but-none-the-worse-for-that Jean Note, the French baritone. 

It is mx XP2092 Les bœufs (Dupont). Side number 36363

and mx XP2034 Jocelyn (Godard) "Berceuse" Side number 36335.
M Note must've liked the Berceuse because he recorded it at least five times for several different companies. 
The record is a magnificently clean and tidy "Disque Odeon" with a brown-and-gold label and it plays beautifully. There is a tiny edge chip, NOWHERE NEAR the music (see photograph).  Sorry about the dust visible on that photo.. it's now been removed by a fluffy thing, as advertised by the man on TV with the white dog.
We're not sure of the recording date(s) of this item. We know it was recorded in Paris, and from then on, the internet WHICH IS NEVER WRONG, gets a bit vague. It appears to be late 1904 or early 1905. There is the usual small orchestral accompaniment, and it all reproduces remarkably well for such an early disc. It grades as a more or less E, using the VJM imprecise and confusing system. The "other" system would rate it as a very strong VG+++ or better.  You'll never find a cleaner copy.
