Description
Offered here is a rare Polydor 78 of the famous woman violinist Erica Morini, playing Tivador Nachez's "Danses Tzigane" and Winternitz's "Forsaken" (Cat. 69862, Matrices 99 2/4 be and 100 1/2 be). Has Mechanical Copyright date of 1927 stamped, and is on the early Polydor version of the "Schallplatte Grammophon" purple label. This recording was made using the early Brusnwick opto-electric process, using a light-sensitive variation of the current derived from a horn-based sound capturing system - a very distinctive sound, mid-way between acoustic and electric. These discs are quite uncommon, and this is musically superb for violin fans, as Morini plays the Nachez piece (which is quite difficult) brilliantly. Nachez was a great Hungarian virtuoso who's music was seldom recorded, which is another point of interest.
Disc in excellent condition, some slight scuffs / marks but nothing major at all, plays fine (0.0028" or 0.0035" stylus, couldn't decide which sounded better).
(Disc was auditioned on a Garrard 401 Transcription deck, with SME 3009 Series II tone-arm, Shure cartridge and Expert Stylus 0.0028" diamond tip, through a Quad pre-amp and Genelec active monitors - if a disc has problems playing, they'll show up through this system!).
