Rare 78rpm record by Pop Eye - Popeye The Sailor - Fleischer cartoon character Only issued in South Africa ( ! ) Recorded in August, 1937 in London - for South African Brunswick 1347 - Special Label 78rpm Labels state: "Specially Recorded for the Members of The Pop Eye Club of South Africa..." (see label photos) Billy Costello - the Original voice of Popeye for Fleischer cartoons in the 1930's Popeye sings two songs . . . "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" "Let's All Sing Like The Birdies Sing" At end of "Merry-Go-Round" recording, after music ends Popeye speaks a personal message to South African boys . . . "I wants every boy in South Africa to be in the club. If you ain't joined yet you're missing something. Take it from me, boys. Come on all you good fellas enlist. Sign under the old name of Captain Popeye and have the time of your life. Now I'm gonna stop, boys, so so-long for now. Goodbye" . . then Popeye laughs.
