EDDIE CALLAHAN:False Ego (Ocean/1970s?)
Everyone talks about outsider loner folkies. Well, here's an outsider loner rocker. And it's a MONSTER!!! This has a couple of awesome psych tracks, some good 70s singer-songwriter rural rockers with an occasional funk move, and a few borderline strange-o cuts. Even the couple of mildly duff tracks border on the odd. His intensity in the label picture tells you everything you need to know.
The LP opens with Where Will I Be Be Tomorrow, which has great echoed vocals. Eddie raises many philosophical question "Who am I? Who are You? What was I supposed to do?". Don't You Know? (How I Feel) has an eerie retro-rock feel as he tells us "I lost my mind inside a dream", and tries hard to find it with a couple of backwards guitar solos. Paper Rain is the big monster here, 5 minutes of the eeriest singing ("I want to be in true reality"), broken in half by possibly the most berserk synthesizer (or synthesized guitar) solo I've ever heard.
The record comes in a killer private homemade looking cover made of good old style thick cardboard with 12" by 12" paste-on slicks front and back.
This record is super ultra hyper rare. I know of only 3 copies, and by some coincidence, they are all located right here in the woods of Briar. Naturally, one copy is locked away forever in the vault.
The cover is VG (heavy wear on seams and spine; small splits on spine and bottom seam; splits covering about half of top seam; couple of small discoloration marks on front cover; some water damage in lower left corner-visible in photo). The record looks VG+ (moderate amount of light scuff marks and a few heavier marks; no scratches. It plays EX (a light crackle here & there in a few spots; no pops or clicks).
