Description

You are bidding on an exceptionally rare record:

Wild Family Orchestra from Zamora, California, released as Yolo Record 001.

The front and back cover were designed by the famous artist R. Crumb.
This is one of the rarest R. Crumb related LPs that exists!

*The Cover is signed by every member of the Wild Family Orchestra (see photo).  The signatures are located to the right of the cover photo.*

The liner notes were written by Aline Kominsky-Crumb:

-"The Wild Family Orchestra has been playing music in Yolo County, California since the early 'Thirties.  Their father, Fred Wild Sr., owned and operated the General Store in Zamora and inspired his children by playing trumpet, fiddle, accordian, harmonica, and other instruments.  As a family orchestra the Wilds played for many a Saturday night dance, as well as parties, picnics, and weddings.  Fred Sr. passed away in 1949, but the five children kept the band going.  Another brother, Forrest, who played Saxophone, died in 1940 from a mosquito bite.  Today the Wilds still play together in the fine, old-time traditional style and run the family farm as they have since 1931."

The music was recorded live in the Wild family home during the summer of 1979.  It has a very archaic, one-of-a-kind, old-timey sound.

The Wild Family used to frequently host many Yolo county folk musicians on their farm for an informal festival of sorts.  The Crumb's, who lived in nearby Winters, Ca, took a liking to the eccentric family, who lived in a very anachronistic manner.  Eventually, the relationship between the Crumb's and the Wild's  ended, after one of the Wild's became obviously attracted to Crumb's wife Aline, and other Wild Family members discovered that R Crumb was known as a lewd artist.  This LP is the only piece of history I'm aware of that documents this unique relationship.  Harold Wild is the only member who is still alive today.  He is in his nineties and lives in a nursing home.  Recently, a developer manipulated Harold into selling him the historical Wild Family home, and all of their possessions were sold.  Sadly, the home now looks just like any other modern, stuccoed home,

The LP is conservatively play graded in VG+ condition.  It has plays perfectly and has a very rich luster!

The cover is graded in Near Mint minus condition.  It is still in its shrink and looks perfect, with the exception of some very minor edge wear.  The signatures are underneath the shrink.

Shipping is calculated by ebay at actual shipping costs.  Insurance is optional.
