Description
Adolph Rupp – Rupp
Side One is MINT. Side Two has 3-4 very light superficial scratches not impacting play. Outer sleeve has very minor shelf and edge wear.
Obviously the autograph on front cover, in marker, cannot be authenticated easily but comparison to other signatures by Coach Rupp has me convinced enough that it is real. Good luck bidding you University of Kentucky NCAA Basketball Fans.
Update: I researched some more and found this item was included in a small lot of sports related record albums one might find in the collection of a sports radio station or employee of same. Two of the items included a return address label for a Richard O. Osborne, who passed away in 2016. I found an obituary listing for him and learned the following: Dick attended Florida Southern College before joining the Navy. There, he was stationed in Sicily and started the Armed Forces Radio. Upon his arrival back to the States, his public broadcasting really took off as his voice reached thousands. His career included a position as radio play-by-play announcer as well as GM of the West Palm Beach Expos, induction into the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame, Assistant Sports Director at WPTV, anchor at WJNO sports, and (what he is known most for) announcing. The groups that were lucky enough to hear his voice echo over loud speakers included high school baseball, Atlanta Braves Spring Training, American Legion Baseball, 1996 Baseball Olympic Games, and what many know him for today, the PA announcer at Roger Dean Stadium as well as the Major League Baseball Organization, the Marlins.
RIP. Included in the lot of sports LP records were several copies of Armed Forces Radio records, not yet listed on Ebay, but I did add a photo of one of the records with his name tag on the front. This doesn't prove he owned the Rupp Record, but he was in the Sports Radio industry so this does provide some provenence on this rare item.
