Description

This is very rare original 1978 test pressing from Shelter Records for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' second album, You're Gonna Get It!.
This was their first gold record, and featured the singles "I Need to Know" and "Listen To Her Heart". In 1979, the band was dragged into a legal dispute when ABC Records, Shelter's distributor, was sold to MCA Records. Petty refused to be transferred to another record label and held fast to his principles, which led to his filing for bankruptcy as a tactic against MCA.
What's a Test Pressing? Great question. According to Rare Records (dot net), it's a record manufactured for the express purpose of evaluating the finished product.Test pressings might be manufactured for the purpose of listening to material that is being considered for commercial release or they might be made as a test of production stampers for a finished commercial record. Rare?  You betcha.
This one features its original label copy sheet from Shelter Records with the album title and catalog number, song titles and running times and publishing information. It appear the hard sleeve was swapped out somewhere along the way.
"Test Pressing" is etched on the vinyl with MFG ID. It was pressed at Columbia Records vinyl pressing plant in Santa Maria CA.
I've been cleaning out storage and have decided to unload the best of my vinyl collection. NO RESERVE - Go for it. Please ask any questions. I have 100 percent Positive Feedback.
