Description

Very rare 10" broadcast transcription of the BBC Jazz Club, shows #71 and #72.  The labels have an expiry date of 5.3.62 (March 5, l962) providing an approximate recording and broadcast date.  Each side of the transcription contains a half-hour show featuring Brtitish jazz musicians.  Side 1 begins with two performances by the Jazz Couriers, starring Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott, doing "Oasis" (Tubby on tenor) and "Come Rain or Come Shine" (Tubby on vibes).   The Eddie Thompson (modern piano) Quintet then follows, doing "Love and the Weather" and "Three for 3/4".  Side 2 features the Fairweather-Brown All Stars, a  mainstream swing septet headed by Al Fairweather on trumpet and Sandy Brown on clarinet. They do four tunes: "Africa Blues", "L'il Darlin", "Groover Wail", and a Jaspar Livesey (baritone) feature on "Our Love Is Here to Say".  The transcription is in immaculate condition, perhaps played twice (once by me).  As far as can be determined, the material is previously unissued and undocumented.  Barbara Schwarz's definitive l990 Tubby Hayes discography has no entry for this session.  The transcription is in its original BBC sleeve.
