Here is a great rare vintage original Mama Lion record.

Legendary gatefold cover opens up to reveal her breastfeeding a lion cub(?!).

Vinyl is near mint, with a few almost invisible surface lines that do not affect play.  Looks unplayed.

First pressing on the Family Productions label.  FPS 2702.

Made in Canada, so it is about ten times as rare as the US pressing.

Cover has barely visible light creases, two lightly bumped corners, light ringwear on the back only.  Excellent condition suitable for framing.

Great powerful Janis Joplin style vocals from Lynn Carey.

She was also a Penthouse Pet.

Backed up the the legendary Neil Merryweather.

"This group had their moment of fame largely due to the lead singer (Lynn Carey) having appeared as a centerfold in a man's publication.
While a nice marketing gimmick, it sold the talents of Ms. Lynn and the band cheaply.

Lynn has amazing vocal range, less prone to shriek and more apt to go for a lower range to phrase her vocals and she does justice to all her songs.
She's fronted a bit more than the fine backing band and I'm sure that was no accident but it's not a knock against the album. Just a slight to a solid band.
The group's cover of Blind Faith's, Can't Find My Way Home, is unique and one of my favorites.

"Back in the day", I first heard Mama Lion's version of "Ain't No Sunshine", followed immediately by "Be Bad With Me" and I was instantly rocked! As I listened to the rest of the album I was impressed with the consistent quality of singing, musicianship, and general innovativeness of the album. Lynn Carey is not Janis Joplin; she doesn't have to be. Her talent/singing is unique and fantastic in it's own right. The band is solid, energetic, and talented. This is a GREAT album that deserved to do better than it did and if you are at all interested in the genre of rock/blues than you will love this album. Made in the early '70's the sound quality, and musical relevance has held up to the test of time: this isn't just for "collectors". Years later, on a fluke, I searched and found this. Surprisingly, the band plays honest hard rock'n'roll and Lynn Carey's vocals are far from being sweet, as one would expect from her picture.
