Description
Rare mono copy of Jackie McLean New and Old Gospel on the blue and white Liberty labels of Blue Note BLP 4262. The playing surface is in near-new condition, with a high luster; perhaps played once or twice. The cover shows some fading; small stain from price tag adhesive in upper right corner of back; 3/4" x 1/4" tear in upper portion of back, in the white area; 1/2" split to bottom seam, at the opening; very light scratch along part of the bottom border
In the mid-l960s, Blue Note pressed special mono copies of approximately nine records from their catalogue for radio stations that had not yet made the switch to stereo transmission. The labels have the traditional BLP mono prefix, while old covers were used on which a "MONO LP" sticker was affixed to obscure the "Stereo" designation.
Personnel includes Ornette Coleman, Lamont Johnson, and Billy Higgins.
