Here we have the legendary soprano Adelina Patti, performing “La Serenata” (Tosti) on a lovely Patti-pink HMV catalogue no. 2, number 03079 with the mx number 677c
It is single-sided and features piano accompaniment (perhaps provided by her nephew, or whatever relative he was).
It is sparklingly clean and plays beautifully.
We have had this record for AGES and have never noticed, until now, that there is a very light needle run towards the end of the side. It’s hard to see, but if you look at the record in harsh sideways light and squint a bit, you can just-about see it. We have attempted to photograph it for your delight and delectation. It is totally inaudible during acoustic playback (top of the range HMV player) and only produces a few of the lightest clicks imaginable when played on a transcription deck.
However, to be scrupulously fair, we’ve pointed it out, photographed it, and are now offering the disc to you a startlingly low opening price.
Because of that almost invisible needle-run, let’s call it a solid VG+.
Mr Fuffy, the one-eyed ex-feral, thinks it's a bargain (and he doesn't think much to badgers).
