Here we have a Very Rare Opera 78! 

It's mezzo soprano BICE LUCCHINI (on the label as LUCCHINI BICE which sounds like a delicious Italian wafer biscuit) singing "Vissi d'arte" from Tosca (Puccini) on a single-sided BEKA 8182 recorded in Milan in November 1904.  It is a 10¾" pressing, like the Fonotipias and early Odeons.  Unlike them, it is remarkably thin, so it'll be a bit of a blighter to post safely, but we'll manage it. Also, since this is usually a rather  l*o*n*g  aria, the grooves begin right at the very rim of the record to fit it all in, so you have to be a bit careful where and how you drop the stylus.  Ms Lucchini is noted on the label as "a dramatic soprano of the Carlo Felice Theatre" (which still exists) in Genoa.  She is accompanied by a pianist whose left hand isn't all it should be.  He is no Jerry Lee Lewis.. but he does add a certain period charm, and there's no use complaining because you're 119 years too late.  This is a spectacularly rare disc, and you'll never find another.
