Description
Long time buyer, first time seller. Offering from my collection a fine copy of Mozart's 'Le Nozze di Figaro' performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Erich Kleiber, conductor, with Siepi, DellaCasa, Gueden, et al. One of the rarest and most sought after English Decca releases, catalog number SXL 2087-8-9-90, matrix numbers (sides one to eight): 5E, 4F, 4F, 3E, 3F, 2K, 4F, 4K. Deep groove; 'Recording First Published 1959;' 'Original Recording By' at 10 o'clock position. Conservatively play graded VG+ - seven of the eight sides are shiny with little or no visible signs of wear; slight spindle marks; plays exceptionally quiet. There is a mark on side two (see photo) that cannot be felt with the finger; it produces a light pop for about a minute at two points on the side, but does not skip or stick. Cover is sturdy but shows signs of wear. Front bears a period (9/60) price sticker; name written in light ball point pen at the top; and a small (<1/2") of paper loss from the paste-on cover slick, also at the top. Four corners are separated; edges are intact and firmly attached. Hinge is solid with no splits. Minor seam splits on the back of the box that affect the pasted-on covering but do not breach the box itself. Small stain and wear on back cover upper left corner, apparently from a sticker. Synopsis insert, libretto, and all four 'Decca FFSS' lined inner sleeves are present and in remarkably good condition - no tears, splits, or stains. Played on a VPI HW19 MkIV w/ Sumiko MMT tone arm, Grado Reference cartridge w/ top-end Soundsmith retip. Cleaned on VPI 16. Will package records in new inner sleeves, separate from box and original inner sleeves. Winner outside US will pay actual calculated shipping cost. Give your favorite opera lover/audiophile a sweet Christmas present (or yourself an early one). These don't turn up often at all. Great performance, great recording, great condition.
